Oatmeal Crunches

According to the 1972 cookbook we borrowed from Tina Morrison, entitled Cool Cooking: Recipes of Your Favorite Rock Stars, this was the Osmonds’ favorite “all-American” cookie recipe. Thirty-four years later, the cookies still taste great, but I’m not so sure about the Osmonds.

1 C butter, softened
1 C brown sugar, packed
1 C sugar
1 t vanilla
2 eggs
1-1/2 C flour
1 t salt
1 t baking soda
3 C quick oats
3/4 C add-ins (chocolate chips, walnuts, or coconut were mentioned in the original recipe, but I sometimes use raisins)

In a medium bowl, combine the butter and sugars and beat until fluffy. Add vanilla. Then beat in the eggs, one at a time. Combine the baking soda, salt, and flour, and add this to the butter and egg mixture. Stir in the add-ins.

Drop teaspoons of the dough on a greased cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart. Bake at 350 F for 10-15 minutes, until golden brown. Makes 7 dozen cookies.
