Cranberry Sangria

2 C fresh cranberries, plus a few extra for garnish
1 C water
1 C sugar
750-ml bottle of red wine
1 C orange juice
1/2 C brandy or port
Put cranberries in a small saucepan with the water and sugar. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 5 minutes, until the berries are soft. Strain this mixture through a colander.
Transfer the strained juice to a pitcher and stir in the rest of the ingredients. Chill to allow flavors to blend and serve over ice, garnished with cranberries.
