Crockpot Dump Cake (pattern recipe)

This is not a real recipe, it’s a pattern, meaning there are a million ways to do it.

  • Spray a crockpot with cooking spray, or grease it
  • Dump in 2 cans of pie filling or undrained canned fruit (if you use canned fruit, stir in a teaspoon of cornstarch to thicken the juice)
  • Spread a boxed cake mix over the top
  • Dot the cake mix with a half stick of butter, cut into pieces, or melt the butter and drizzle it over the top
  • Sprinkle with nuts (optional)
  • Cover and cook for 3 or 4 hours on low
  • Serve with ice cream or whipped cream

Some of the options include:

  • Black forest dump cake: Dark chocolate cake mix, cherry pie filling, dark canned cherries, and almonds
  • Tropical dump cake: Yellow cake mix and pineapple or mixed tropical fruit and cashews
  • Peach dump cake: Yellow cake mix and canned peaches
  • Holiday dump cake: Spice cake mix, whole cranberry sauce, apple pie filling, and walnuts
