With walnut-raisin bread, try:

With olive bread, try:
Egg salad and a little caviar
Country pate with red radish slices and butter Boston lettuce
Chopped, crisp-cooked broccoli or rapini, lots of scallions and ranch dressing
Roasted red peppers, anchovies or sardines, a little snipped parsley and olive oil, mixed
Squid, shrimp and crab salad with capers in a light oil dressing
Mortadella, smoked mozzarella and sun-dried tomato spread
With semolina bread, try:
Chopped artichoke hearts, freshly grated parmesan, and enough mayo to hold it together; grill
Thin cucumber slices, onion sprouts and sweet butter
Paper-thin smoked salmon, dill sauce, onion slices you can see through and a bit of mesclun
Sliced turkey breast with avocado and alfalfa sprouts, and mayonnaise studded with green peppercorns and tarragon
Roast pork slices with warm apple and onion marmalade
Leftover meatloaf – and catsup, of course
With rosemary bread, try:
Stilton cheese, not-too-crisp bacon, curly endive and a sprinkle of balsamic vinegar
Smoked bluefish, bermuda onion slices and arugula, with hot sauce
Lamb, mint sauce and lots of roasted garlic
Warm sliced duck breast with kumquat sauce
Ratatouille
Large cooked shrimps, cut in half lengthwise and soaked for a few minutes in olive oil, lime juice, and a pinch of horseradish. Try adding cilantro or Italian parsley.
